2020.10.26 17:53 leonardoswans CROX- A Fast Fashion Entrant and Possible Blowout Earnings
| || |TLDR 1 submitted by leonardoswans to wallstreetbets [link] [comments]
: Crox will probably have a blowout earnings tomorrow morning, and if their forward guidance is good, it will fly. They have caught on as a trend both on their own and with celebrity partnerships, and they are also benefiting from the move to work from home. I also believe that long term, they can use their data and flexibility to quickly penetrate new markets and bring new demographics in.
There have already been posts about the meteoric rise of Crocs, the collaborations, and everything else. While I’ll touch on these a bit in here, I think that there is another point that isn’t being made, and that is how Crocs can take the brilliance and profitability of the fast fashion industry and use it to make a lot of money. This all depends on how much they scale and adapt, but it’s definitely a path forward others aren’t considering. (I know that seeing Crocs and fashion in the same sentence is puzzling, but bear with me.
) What’s Fast Fashion and How Do Crocs Fit In?
Fast Fashion is a term that is used for all of the Zara’s and H&M”s of the world. They broke the seasonal fashion model by creating a constant stream of new products. Where others would spend their time developing a fashion line months in advance for a seasonal release, they created a nimble infrastructure that allowed them to stay at the front edge of trends. They see something trendy, they whip something together, and they have it in stores in a couple of weeks.
Other shoe makers are more or less in the traditional model because of all that is involved in their production and their legacy infrastructure. Because Crocs are relatively easier to make with injection molds and the jibbitz make them quickly customizable, they can come out with something that taps into a social trend rather quickly. If you look at their recent products, you can see that they were able to do this. This puts them in a unique position. See the BLM decked out Crocs here for one example.
https://preview.redd.it/9utv3ifkygv51.png?width=543&format=png&auto=webp&s=798cb77a3898d3b91703480f1e8677c7ee381f71 Data Snipers in Crocs
You may notice that they have come out with a lot of collaborations lately. Justin Bieber, Bad Bunny, Priyanka Chopra, Grateful Dead, etc. This may just seem like they are coming out with new shoes, but I think it’s much more targeted. Thinking about how they can move more quickly than most, what could they do to break into new demographics? They could partner with a star that does well with that demographic and get a shoe out the door quickly. Bad Bunny was no accident. They did that to break into the Latin community. If you search “crocs” on Twitter, look at how many of the tweets are in Spanish. While anyone can do collabs, I think that the standardization of their production and the speed at which they move puts them in a unique position to kill it. Look at how popular the searches are alone. When you go to Google Bad Bunny, the first result is “Bad Bunny Crocs” after the man himself.
https://preview.redd.it/f8c96aklygv51.png?width=1137&format=png&auto=webp&s=bfb1f5352b43763663dd9b1349d142eabbb8094a The Data
Go on their Instagram account, and you can see that all of their collabs and releases sold out so quickly. People are hocking the Bad Bunny ones for $200-300. Read the Twitter stream, and you will see people talking about buying their 10th pair. I just entered it and saw “700 tweets in the last hour”. Yeah, there’s some people talking about how ugly they are, but that’s because they’re responding to die hard fans. Look at HypeBeast ranking them 3rd this month. If that doesn’t show hype, I don’t know what does.
TLDR 2/Positions: Nov 55C, Nov 60C
- We’re going into the winter months, and the standard crocs don’t fair well with the cold, puddles, etc. Personally, I think they could come out with some type of winter friendly shoe and just crush it. That should be a top priority. Also, with Covid numbers going up, people may be staying at home more this winter, making Crocs a good purchase for around the house.
- Capacity-They keep selling out of everything. If you go on the site, you can see that so many shoes are sold out, only a few sizes are available, etc. If they give forward guidance that they cannot keep up with demand, we might get whacked.
I think we could have a breakout on earnings due to massive sales numbers. I think the hype is real, and all of these social signals point to it continuing to roll. They just announced a new collaboration today with a country star that they have partnered with before.
I walked into today with the November 55 calls. I traded most of them up to the 60 calls. I may add to it since everything is down today. I got this one from the Dumb Money guys, but I wish I jumped in with some of the earlier DD on here. (I just found Dumb Money 2 weeks ago, but I really wish I found them earlier.) I’m on the higher side of medium conviction, and I think that a pop will probably come unless the market is just on a constant bleed through tomorrow. Because of the turmoil today, I am playing it a little more conservatively than I would have otherwise.
Good luck out there, everyone!
*Not Financial Advice. Entertainment Only.*
Update 1: I had a lot of people ask me about the play. I am still confident that we're still good. Yesterday was an excellent response. A lot of stocks do well before the market opens and then dump. This thing ramped throughout the day because people are confident in it.
My calls are down from purchase, but I am fine with holding because this stock has an excellent trajectory as far as I can see. I wish I went more in Crox than stuff like AMD and the other popular ones that bombed.
Look at the 4 hour chart today, with blood in the streets. This looks like a bullish 4 hour chart to me.
The whole market was sideways yesterday and is bleeding out today, and my calls just went positive. That's pretty damn good. My 60 calls are down 18% from purchase right now, and the 55 strike just went profitable. They are positive on a day like today. Also, look at this coverage of the CEO on CNBC yesterday. This is so bullish on so many levels with digital sales, new collabs, the strategy (which isn't far off from what I mentioned), and more. https://www.cnbc.com/video/2020/10/27/crocs-ceo-discusses-the-surge-in-digital-sales-stock-up-337-percent-since-march-lows.html?__source=iosappshare%7Ccom.apple.UIKit.activity.CopyToPasteboard
I think this thing will start to fly if we don't enter complete civil unrest/market crash. It's all your call what you do. Just letting you know that I think the play is alive and well, and I am holding. Update to Update:
I am selling everything off when it goes to 52 if it does. The whole market is wild. This chart and beat were great, and their were profits along the way that I hope people took. This election/pandemic just makes everything harder. Stay safe out there everyone!

2020.07.01 08:45 VastSwitch Priyanka Chopra Jonas Signs First Look TV Deal With Amazon
It was a general meeting with Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke that led to the first-look deal. “Priyanka and I bonded over a shared passion for diverse global storytelling,” Salke tells Variety
, adding, “Priyanka is drawn to exciting original content and characters that can resonate globally. She’s a powerhouse producer, and we are thrilled to collaborate with her for years to come.”
Before striking the deal, Chopra Jonas was already collaborating with Amazon on two television projects: “Sangeet,” an unscripted series co-produced with her husband, Nick Jonas, based on the Indian pre-wedding tradition in which the families of the bride and groom compete against each other in song and dance, and “Citadel,” Anthony and Joe Russo’s spy series in which she’ll star with Richard Madden.
Amazon hopes Chopra Jonas will help grow the studio’s footprint in India. In a report published in May, research firm Media Partners Asia forecast that Amazon will reach 17 million subscribers in the country in 2020, just behind market leader Disney Plus Hotstar, with 18 million.
“My quest really is to be able to tell female stories, work with creators from around the world and create a cross-pollination of storytelling,” Chopra Jonas says. “Amazon is such a great partner to do that because their reach and outlook is so global. My Amazon television deal is a global deal, so I can do Hindi language, I can do English language, I can do whatever language I want.” On the film side, Chopra Jonas has at least one project with Amazon that she can talk about: She’ll topline and produce “Sheela,” a feature based on the Netflix docu-series “Wild Wild Country.” She’ll star as Ma Anand Sheela, assistant to guru Bhagwan Rajneesh (also known as Osho). Amazon aside, she’ll next be seen in Netflix’s “We Can Be Heroes” with director Robert Rodriguez, as well as the streamer’s “The White Tiger,” an adaptation of Aravind Adiga’s Man Booker Prize-winning best-seller of the same name. She’s also shooting Warner Bros.’ “The Matrix 4,” which recently resumed filming after production was halted by the pandemic.
Says Chopra Jonas’ longtime manager Anjula Acharia, “Priyanka’s willingness to challenge the status quo is exactly what global audiences are crying out for, and for this reason alone, she is one of the most unique talents in the landscape right now.”

The Bollywood Stars Bringing Glamour And Investments To The Indian Startup Ecosystem.
With investments in Bumble and Holberton School, Priyanka Chopra is a regular on the investor circuit
Deepika Padukone invested in health food brand Epigamia, while Hrithik Roshan has backed Cultfit.
The most recent instance was Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's investment in Ambee
Here Are The Bollywood Stars Who Have Invested In Your Favourite Startup For the last few decades, Bollywood has been India’s global identity. However, in the last few years, the India startup ecosystem has also become a well-regarded export pulling in investments from around the world. Startup innovations, entrepreneurs and the booming investor ecosystem have drawn the attention of global economic powerhouses. And there is a new breed of investors emerging too, with the rise of Bollywood investments.
Investors from the glamorous world of Bollywood are doing their bit for the startup ecosystems. However, beyond being brand ambassadors, Bollywood celebrities have also taken turns in betting on startups in various sectors. While some have taken turns to be investors, some others have started up their own businesses as well.
The trend is not a surprise. Over the last few years, Hollywood celebrities including the likes of Ashton Kutcher, Snoop Dogg, Nas, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, among others, have shown off their penchant for tech by backing various startups.
In India, the trend of startup investments began quite some time back. From Amitabh Bachchan to Rani Mukherjee, the next generation of celebrity-turned-investor has names such as Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone and more.
Here’s a brief of the recent celebrities who have donned their tech interest with investor cap:
Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone began her investor journey with a multi-crore strategic partnership with Mumbai-based FMCG health-food brand Epigamia. The investment by Padukone comes as an extension of the recently closed Series C round of funding led by Verlinvest, Danone Manifesto Ventures, and DSG Consumer Partners.
Epigamia was launched in 2015 by Rohan Mirchandani, Uday Thakker, Ganesh Krishnamoorthy, and Rahul Jain as a Greek yoghurt brand and expanded its portfolio to include artisanal curd, snack packs, Indian sweets, and smoothies.
Rohan Mirchandani, cofounder, Epigamia said the actress’s massive appeal aligns with the health-conscious youth of India that the brand is hoping to reach. “Our shared set of core values and beliefs is what drew us together and this bonding principle, along with Deepika’s involvement in our products and brand, will be extremely valuable for us,” he said.
Deepika Padukone has also donned her entrepreneurial hat with a fashion label, All About You and an NGO, Live Life Foundation. In September, Padukone through her family office has invested in Delhi-based Blu Smart. She participated in $3 Mn angel round of funding through her family office Ka Entreprises, along with JITO Angel Network, Kalpavriksh Trust, Survam Partners, cofounder of Micromax Rajesh Agarwal, and the MD of Bajaj Capital Sanjiv Bajaj among other investors.
Blu Smart was initially launched in January 2019 as an electric cab-hailing platform. Later in June, the Delhi-based company has pivoted to offer subscription-based car rentals, ride-sharing on both electric cars and bikes, and shared the electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across Delhi NCR region.
Popularly known for his athletic and simple lifestyle, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar stuck with his health and wellness interests. Kumar invested an undisclosed amount in Mumbai-based wearable tech startup, GOQii.
Founded in 2014 by Vishal Gondal, GOQii is a smart wearable that helps people track their steps, sleep, and other physical activities, and then does more. Its smart health ecosystem integrates tools for real-time personalised coaching, an explosive high-growth health ecommerce store, scheduling health checkups, a health locker.
Akshay Kumar joined the company’s board as an investor and strategic advisor. As part of this association, Akshay Kumar will host one of GOQii’s health education initiatives called the ‘India Health Quiz’ on GOQii Play. Kumar will be conducting live coaching sessions on GOQii Play.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Ambee Raises Funding From Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Rajan Anandan Former Miss World and Bollywood actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan recently turned angel investor in an investment with her mother, Vrinda KR. The duo invested INR 50 Lakh each in Bengaluru-based environmental intelligence startup Ambee.
Founded in 2017 by Akshay Joshi, Jaideep Singh and Madhusudan Anand, Ambee provides data about hyperlocal air quality which is accessible to developers, consumers, health researchers and media companies. The platform uses proprietary data and analytics to help customers make informed decisions or take preventive measures in a situation of severe environmental distress.
Bollywood actor Arjun Kapoor announced his investment in home food delivery company Foodcloud.in to empower women.
“My aim at investing in Foodcloud.in is to contribute towards a larger societal purpose of empowering the homemakers to contribute towards their family income,” Kapoor has said. Led by Vedant Kanoi and Sanjhi Rajgarhia, the food delivery platform runs on the premise of home cooks delivering hygienic and home-cooked food to customers from their kitchens.
For Kanoi, having a “socially conscious youth icon” like Kapoor’s support is a dream come true. “He has enjoyed the homemade food by our talented home chefs in Delhi and we’re excited to have his support to grow our initiative to new cities,” he said.
Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra, who shifted base to Los Angeles after making inroads into Hollywood with Quantico and Baywatch, has been all over the headlines for after her high-profile engagement with American singer-actor Nick Jonas. Beyond making couple headlines, she also made a buzz with her investments in alternate college education startup Holberton School and dating app Bumble.
San Francisco-based Holberton School was founded in 2015 by Julien Barbier, Rudy Rigot and Sylvain Kalache as a project-based alternative to college for the next generation of software engineers. Bumble was founded by Whitney Wolfe Herd in December 2011 as a “feminist dating app”.
Chopra said that she is honoured to join the two companies that are striving to expand gender diversity in the tech space and make a social impact for the greater good of society. After her investment, Bumble launched its operations in India.
Popular singer Sukhbir Singh began his investments journey with LQI in August. Singh participated in the $200K funding round of Gurugram-based beverage startup, LQI. The funds will be deployed to increase the production capacity and the geographical expansion to newer markets.
Founded in 2016 by Shubham Khanna, Palak Kapoor and Kapil Kumar, LQI uses their proprietary technology to manufacture Smoothie, Milkshake and Fruit Water frozen packs made with 100% raw fresh fruit with a increased shelf life of 2.5 months without use of any colors, flavors, purees or preservatives.
Singh soon announced his second investment in electric vehicle startup eBikeGo. Amritsar-based electric bike rental company eBikeGo was founded in 2017 by Dr Irfan Khan. The company procures its electric bikes from the Indian EV manufacturer Okinawa Autotech. The startup is currently present in Delhi, Amritsar, Jaipur, Jalandhar, and Agra.
The company generates revenue through tourist and customer bike rentals along with partnerships with logistic delivery providers. eBikeGo is aiming to capture 2% of the Indian electric two-wheeler market share in the near future, and plans to build a fleet of 200K bikes in 100 Indian cities.
Ayushmann Khurrana Invests In The Man Company
Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana has invested an undisclosed amount in Gurugram-based male grooming startup The Man Company (TMC). The actor would also be the brand ambassador for the company. This is the first time the actor has made such an investment.
TMC founder and managing director Hitesh Dhingra said that the funding is part of a strategic investment in the company, and the actor would not hold any board position. He added that the funds will be used for branding and ramping up presence across India.
The Man Company was founded in 2015 by Bhisham Bhateja, Hitesh Dhingra, Rohit Chawla and Parvesh Bareja. The company is known to offer a head-to-toe range of men’s grooming products across various categories, including bath and body management, shaving and perfumes.
Ayushmann Khurrana said, “The definition of a gentleman has thankfully evolved today and I believe men should be comfortable to embrace their vulnerability and their weaknesses. It doesn’t make them less of a man. I immediately connected with the philosophy of The Man Company and consider the company as a progressive and extremely inclusive brand whose products I love using. The company has impeccable business insights and I will be deeply invested in ensuring that the company grows from strength to strength in the years to come.’’ https://inc42.com/buzz/the-bollywood-stars-bringing-glamour-and-investments-to-the-indian-startup-ecosystem/

2020.05.19 07:49 NewsPressInida Sangeeta Boochra and Silver Centrre is helping more than 5000 village artisans to work from home
| || | submitted by NewsPressInida to u/NewsPressInida [link] [comments]
The brand is patronized by Her Highness Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II of England, Maharani Gayatri Devi of Jaipur, Royal Family of Patiala, Nizam of Hyderabad, Royal Family of Rajkot, Royal Family of Kota, Wadiyar Dynasty of Mysore, Royal Family of Baroda - the Gaekwad Dynasty, John. F. Kennedy President of United States to Hollywood Celebrities Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Sofia Vergara, Monica Bellucci, Salma Hayek, Audrey Hepburn to Bollywood Celebrities like Deepika Padukone, Aishwarya Rai, Priyanka Chopra, Vidya Balan, Alia Bhatt. Sangeeta Boochra is the woman behind the Iconic Luxury Heritage Jewellery brand from India – Sangeeta Boochra and Silver Centrre.
Sangeeta Boochra today runs a team of 2000 traditional Karigars and Artisans handpicked from the interiors of India to give shape to her unique designs. Sangeeta Boochra took to the aim of being able to show the brilliance of Indian Jewelry to the world through her creative vision.
Sangeeta Boochra and her team have been providing economic and social stimulus to the underprivileged community since 1998.
“I, along with my Father in Law Seth Lalit Kumar Boochra jointly started a programme known as a Community development Programme under which unskilled Rural Poor are made jewellery artisans through community mobilization and skill training. With training and livelihood at their doorstep, fair wages, no exploitation, no child labour, no pollution and no harm to the society,” says Sangeeta Boochra
Under this program, Artisans and their communities are facilitated for better health, life skill education, sanitation, and other social imperatives. “We also do financing for one daughter’s marriage of an Artisan,” says Sangeeta Boochra
This initiative by Sangeeta and her team has connected artisans to the world markets. The team also helps the artisan by taking them to all shows and exporting their products to different countries of the world.
“We partner with Government, Civil Societies, NGO’s, etc. Employing Artisans who live in the most remote parts of India with little to no access to transport. The greatest challenge in their lives is commuting to work and back, often resulting in families that live far apart. One of the key differentiators of our model is an artisan’s ability to not only work from home but have business travel to them.” says Sangeeta Boochra
Through a grassroots network that requires specialized logistical support, the raw material is dropped off at an artisan’s home where they work on the product. To ensure customers receive high-quality products, quality supervisors inspect the production to help ensure a consistent output while tracking progress. These supervisors also provide artisan service to ensure they are not interrupted by the shortage of raw bullion. When completed, the product is picked up at the Artisans doorstep and sent on to the next stage of jewellery making progress.
These networks stretch across 400 villages in India through an intense grassroots network to connect 25,000 artisans.
Sangeeta Boochra / Silver Centrre’s artisans thus have the ability to work from home. More women can work towards financial independence, as they don’t have to navigate commute, especially in remote villages. Artisans decide their own work hours - being able to work around their family’s schedules.
“Artisans will lose no workdays in receiving and transporting material. Traditional Indian communities do not give women the opportunity to work outside the home -Sangeeta Boochra / Silver Centrre’s model provides an easy solution to this,” says Sangeeta Boochra.

2020.04.14 21:46 the1sarcastic Smita Patil award for contribution to Indian cinema was given to Katrina in 2016, Kareena in 2006 and DP in 2012.
I feel Kareena winning it in 2006 was also premature, and DP in 2012 was also premature. The first recipient indeed was Rekha and Tanvi Azmi after her. Sridevi, Madhuri, Urmila have won these awards, but like most other awards they have become a popularity award. There is no one since Urmila who has won it imo deservingly except PC in 2014. The last one who won was Anushka in 2018. list of all actresses who have won
Katrina Kaif winning the Smita Patil Award is as mind-boggling as some of her films
By Eepsita Gupta
Katrina Kaif has been announced as the recipient of the biennial Smita Patil Memorial Award for 2016, in honour of her contribution to the film industry.
Honestly, stranger things have happened.
But as someone who follows Bollywood keenly and has witnessed Miss Kaif’s acting talent (or lack thereof), this award brings as much shock to me as it must have elicited happiness in Kaif and her fans.
Katrina Kaif winning the Smita Patil Award is as mind-boggling as some of her films Katrina Kaif and Smita Patil. Images from News 18. Let’s take a look at Kaif’s “contribution to the film industry.” One can’t blame you if the first thing that comes to your mind is 'Kala Chashma' or 'Chikni Chameli' or 'Sheila Ki Jawani'. The actress has firmly established herself as the go-to person for any filmmaker who is looking for that one chartbuster song in his movie.
The British import may not have her Hindi down pat, but she sure has mastered the jhatkas and matkas – unfortunately, an essential in Bollywood’s handbook for heroines. To give her credit, she does bring star value to every film that she is a part of. With her good looks, unmatched glamour quotient and mass appeal, Kaif is a star, no questions asked.
But is she an actor? That is a different story altogether.
In a career spanning 13 years, Kaif has several hits to her credit – Namastey London, Partner, Singh Is Kinng, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, Dhoom 3, to name a few. However, her acting skills have been questionable in each of them (never mind, the wafer thin plots of these films). We've never heard of her characters being memorable to viewers after the film gets over.
Kaif has rarely shed her star status to essay the role at hand. Be it the empathetic Maya in New York, who is helping her husband build a new life after being victimised in the 9/11 aftermath, or the guileless Firdaus in Fitoor — she hardly ever goes beyond looking stunning, batting her eyelashes and parroting lines in her accent.
This stands in sharp contrast to Smita Patil’s knack for sinking her teeth into the characters. Compare the despair of Patil’s slum-dweller act in Chakra (scroll to 1:10:34 below for the scene) where she chases a water truck after days of going without water, to Kaif’s in Jab tak hai Jaan.
In only a 15-year-long career, Patil brought to the fore her versatility as an actor. With celebrated director Shyam Benegal, she gave us some inimitable performances in Manthan, Bhumika and then Mandi. Not to mention, her powerful acts in socially relevant movies like Ardh Satya and Bazaar.
Clearly, Kaif is no Smita Patil.
Truth be told, even Kat’s contemporaries are not a patch on the powerhouse performer. But the unfortunate bit is that Kaif does not even match up to her peers — be it her supposed arch rival Deepika Padukone or Priyanka Chopra (both of whom have won the Smita Patil Memorial Award previously).
Bestowing this honour upon Kaif only shows how the standards of Hindi film industry have plummeted since Patil. firstpost

2019.12.26 14:09 isabellapintop Priyanka Chopra: I was bullied by a supremely racist black girl
Priyanka Chopra Jonas recently reflected on times during her adolescence in which she was bullied for her appearance, particularly for the color of her skin.
She recalls her origins as if they were a lifetime ago. Even before she was an inter-continental star, cultural division was a defining factor of Chopra’s life.At 13, she left her family in India to study in the United States, living with her aunt and uncle in Newton, Mass. But being a gawky teenager and the only Indian girl at school wasn’t without its challenges, namely, xenophobic encounters that proved too suffocating and dispiriting to endure. “I was bullied by a freshman named Jeanine. She was black, and supremely racist. Jeanine used to say, ‘Brownie, go back to your country, you smell of curry,’ or ‘Do you smell curry coming?’ You know when you’re a kid, and you’re made to feel bad about where your roots are, or what you look like? You don’t understand it, you just feel bad about who you are.”
The bullying tested her resolve and broke it. “I told my mom, ‘I don’t want to do this anymore.’” She returned to India defeated, her mind set on becoming an engineer despite her burgeoning movie-star looks. Then, when she applied for a scholarship, her mother sent professionally shot photos to the Miss India pageant without telling her. To her surprise, she won. “The thing is,” she tells me while recalling the start of her career, “I don’t like losing, in anything I do, whatever it might be.
Talks about experiencing racism in India:
"A lot of girls with a darker skin hear things like, 'Oh, poor thing, she’s dark,'" she explained to the outlet. "In India, they advertise skin-lightening creams: 'Your skin’s gonna get lighter in a week.' I used it [when I was very young]."
"When I was an actor, around my early 20s, I did a commercial for a skin-lightening cream," she continued. "I was playing that girl with insecurities. And when I saw it, I was like, 'Oh s---. What did I do?' I started talking about being proud of the way I looked. I actually like my skin tone."
The actress now champions embracing one's identity and appearance. She recently partnered with Obagi Medical for a global awareness initiative called "SKINCLUSION," which is "dedicated to elevating the global dialogue about diversity and how we can all make conscious choices to see the beauty in all of our differences.".

2019.06.20 19:34 lueyhewis360 My Take on PHASE 4 of the MCU, Part 1
I realize that it isn't very smart to do this right before Marvel is about to reveal the actual
Phase 4 film line-up at SDCC, and also this isn't so much "fixing movies" as much as making suggestions for movies and throwing out my own little pitches and whatnot, but I did see a similar post to this the other day and decided I would throw in my two cents on where the MCU should go next.
So here's my little Phase 4 line-up, which I don't suspect will be very close to the actual thing, but it's my best guess.
- Black Widow (2020)
- The Eternals (2020)
- Doctor Strange 2 (2020)
- Shang-Chi (2021)
- Black Panther 2 (2021)
- Spider-Man 3 (2021)
- Guardians 3 (2022)
- Ant-Man 3 (2022)
- Captain Marvel 2 (2022)
- Eternals 2 (2023)
- Avengers 5 (2023)
- ??? (2023) (It's a surprise.)
I wanted to cover all of these in one post originally, but instead I'll just be covering the first five of these. Black Widow
A prequel set before Iron Man 2, with a slightly younger (but not enough that she looks very different) Natasha Romanoff still operating as an assassin for the Red Room organization, with her partner Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), with whom she has a sister-like relationship. As Natasha's missions become more and more morally questionable, she ends up betraying the Red Room and becoming a double agent for SHIELD, after meeting the agent known as Hawkeye.
Natasha works with SHIELD agents to sabotage the Red Room's next big mission, assassinating Aleksander Lukin, head of major Russian weapons developer Kronas, during a company retreat in Hungary. However, another Red Room operative, the mysterious Taskmaster (David Harbour), learns of Natasha's betrayal, and things go awry. Next thing she knows, Natasha is forced to go on the run with Lukin, who himself isn't a very pleasant guy, as world-class killers are sent to hunt her down, including Yelena, who eventually gets the drop on Natasha, but can't bring herself to kill her, and lets her go.
In the end, Natasha lures the Red Room agents into a massive showdown in Budapest, as back-up from SHIELD arrives, including Hawkeye, and the two future Avengers engage in a climactic battle with the Taskmaster. In a final scene set in the modern day, Yelena Belova is seen visiting Natasha's grave, hinting that she may take on the mantle of the Black Widow. The Eternals
Set in the 1970s, with massive Kirby influence, even more than Ragnarok. The plot of this film will stick closer to Kirby's initial run, with two human archaeologists and their companion, who is secretly the Eternal known as Ikaris (Richard Madden), discovering an ancient temple, which confirms the existence of a secret race of god-like beings. Here, Ikaris is able to contact the other Eternals, who are in hiding in a hidden mountain base somewhere across the globe, but also alerts the Deviants, the Eternals' rival race who were exiled to the planet of Titan, to his location, and they go in for the attack.
he other Eternals in the film include the sorceress Sersi (Priyanka Chopra), the speedster Makkari (Kumail Nanjiani), the young trickster Sprite (Millie Bobby Brown), the brawler Gilgamesh (Ma Dong-seok), the wise leader Zuras (uh... any suggestions?), his warrior daughter Thena (Angelina Jolie), and the cunning general Druig (Keanu Reeves is rumored for this role, but I think he deserves a more important one, so I'll just give this to Luke Evans).
As the Eternals (with slight assistance from the human characters) fight off a Deviant invasion lead by the monstrous Warlord Kro, they soon realize that it was one of their own who orchestrated this whole millennia-spanning race war: Druig. He is exiled alongside the defeated Deviant forces, but clearly has another sinister plot up his sleeves.
Flashbacks towards the start of the film, set even further in past, show the Eternals interacting with the early Asgardians, including a young Odin, and seeded throughout the film is the idea that some of the Eternals and the Deviants' cosmic DNA could have been passed down to humanity, they just haven't unlocked it yet. I wonder what eXactly that could be hinting at... Doctor Strange: Dreamscape
Sorcerers around the world are dying at an alarming rate... in their sleep. To investigate the crisis, Doctor Strange and Wong team up with a sorcerer from Haiti, Doctor Voodoo, who has already lost his brother to the phenomena. (Doctor Voodoo's brother was technically killed in the first film, but he was a nameless extra so it doesn't count.) Strange breaks sorcerer code yet again, by venturing into the treacherous Dreamscape, a dimension where the human subconscious rules all. As Strange and his allies soon learn, an entity known as Nightmare (ideally voiced by Robert Englund) has been attacking magic users in their own dreams and harvesting their souls.
As the heroes prepare to face him on his own turf, they stumble upon his dungeon, where a young woman is being held prisoner. They free her, and she vanishes, much to Nightmare's horror. After a brutal confrontation, the heroes are forced to flee back into the waking world, where Strange hears from his old friend Christine Palmer that a patient at Metro General Hospital has just woken up from a decades-long coma. Strange goes to visit her, and learns that her name is Clea Lake, but... not much else. Going into her mind, Strange recovers her memories, and learns that she was an orphan girl who exhibited vast mystical power at a young age, and so was taken in by the Ancient One for training, but Clea proved far too dangerous, and, at Mordo's suggestion, was put into a coma for the safety of the world.
Wong and Voodoo believe that she should be put back to rest, but Strange, who has befriended Clea, objects. Besides, she seems totally normal so far. As the sorcerers debate over what to do with her, Clea falls back to sleep, and is immediately ambushed by Nightmare. Seeing her in distress, Strange goes into her dream to save her, and learns from Nightmare that he was keeping her contained as part of a deal with Mordo, in exchange for the souls of dying sorcerers to satisfy his hunger. The deal forbid Nightmare from going after healthy sorcerers, which he preferred, but recently the deal has... changed. The reason for the sharp increase, though, is that containing Clea's mind has gotten much harder over the years, and is weakening the dream demon. Now that she's awake, she must be killed, or else she could threaten both their worlds.
Just then, Strange and Nightmare are pulled into Clea's hospital room in the waking world, where her full power is finally revealed. Her eyes glowing purple, Clea hovers above the ground, and Nightmare lunges at her, resulting in a giant magic fight that tears the hospital apart, despite Strange's efforts. Wong, Voodoo, and Christine help evacuate most of the staff and patients, and emergency services soon arrive. Clea kills Nightmare, and is about to attack the authorities, when Strange pleads with her not to. The two of them fight, and Strange is hopeless against her, but seeing how determined he is to protect these people, Clea decides to leave them be. A large vortex opens, and she leaves. At the Sanctum, Strange is recovering, when Wong tells him that he and the other sorcerers have begun a manhunt for Clea, and there is nothing Strange can do to stop them. In a post-credits scene, a hooded figure arrives in the Dreamscape, and goes to Nightmare's now empty castle. "The lord of dreams, vanquished. Such a shame.
" The figure then turns toward the screen... "I suppose I'll have to take matters into my own hands.
" Surprise! Its Mordo.
I know this take on Clea is a little Dark Phoenix-y, but my Doctor Strange 3 (which I may include in a future post) would elaborate a bit more on her backstory, including her (whoa spoilers) otherworldy heritage, and have her become a bit more stable. Shang-Chi: Master of Kung-Fu
Shang-Chi (Ludi Lin) is a world class fighter, but he always feels like he can get stronger, and so he constantly pushes himself to the limits to pursue this goal. After winning yet another tournament, he is approached by rookie SHIELD agent Jimmy Woo (former FBI agent and "friend" of Scott Lang's) with a mission to infiltrate a fighting ring on the crime-ridden island of Madripoor, which they believe is being run by the Ten Rings terrorist organization. Shang-Chi participates in the tournament, fighting people like Batroc the Leaper, Hand ninjas, and possibly even Taskmaster in a surprise appearance. Eventually, Shang-Chi learns that the mystery man running the tournament is none other than the real life Mandarin (Donnie Yen), believed to be a legend by most (especially after that whole Trevor Slattery hoax).
Mandarin started the tournament to find a worthy successor, someone who could take his place as the leader of the Ten Rings, and he believes that he has finally found them. Shang-Chi faces off against the supernaturally-powered villain, and upon his victory is gifted the actual, real deal TEN RINGS that are the source of the Mandarin's powers. However, some of the Mandarin's lackeys, who have been lusting for that power for years, attack Shang-Chi, resulting in a big final fight in which Shang-Chi gets to use his wild new abilities, but when all that limitless power nearly destroys him, he has to take them off. He leaves Madripoor, and reports back to SHIELD, telling them everything... except that the Mandarin and his Ten Rings really exist. He hangs on to the rings of course, but decides not to keep using them, knowing that his real power is the one he's spent all of his life working for, and he's content with that. He doesn't need any cosmic artifacts. He's Shang-Chi, the Master of Kung-Fu.
In a post-credits scene, a hooded figure is reading an ancient scroll about the Rings, which are said to possess the soul of the dragon Fin Fang Foom. That figure turns out, yet again, to be Baron Mordo, who has found his next target. Black Panther: Battle of the Heirs
T'Challa and his family deal with the repercussions of opening Wakanda up to the world as the Black Panther and his new partner, the White Tiger (Shuri in her own Vibranium suit), hunt down the arms dealer Moses Magnum, who has been exploiting their technology for evil. The two siblings are used to working together, but not like this, and start to clash as the villain evades them again and again, arguing over how to approach the situation. We would really get to see Shuri's inner conflict as her family isn't quite ready for her to protect Wakanda the way her older brother does, and many of the elders object to having more than one national cat-themed superhero (not the term they use), as it is against tradition.
Meanwhile, Zenzi, a young woman from a technology-hating tribe that left Wakanda long ago, meets with Shuri, and claims that she can help her take down Moses Magnum once and for all. Shuri and Magnum are both masters of technology, but with Zenzi's help, Shuri can master something else entirely. Zenzi starts mystically enhancing Shuri's abilities, even more than the Heart-Shaped Herb ever could, but as a consequence, Shuri begins to act more violent and feral in battle, becoming like an actual tiger, and when T'Challa tries to stop her from brutally murdering Moses Magnum and all of his henchmen, she turns on him, saying that Wakanda deserves better than a coward on the throne. After a massive fight, the siblings reconcile, and go after Zenzi, who has already used her friendship with Shuri to get into the royal palace. After destroying Shuri's lab and the Wakandan army's high-tech arsenal of weapons, Zenzi uses her powers on the Dora Milaje, who transform into evil berserkers as well. Shuri realizes that Zenzi's true power is awakening the darkest parts of one's soul, and now that Wakanda has grown farther from the spiritual world than it has ever been, Zenzi wants to see it tear itself apart from the inside. Using vibration cannons that are able to negate their Vibranium armors (think the thingy in the mine tunnels where T'Challa and Killmonger fought), Zenzi forces the royal siblings to fight without the benefits of modern technology. They just barely make it to her, and are able to defeat Zenzi by turning the sonic cannons on her, which very nearly kills her, but Shuri shuts them down just in time.
In the end, the siblings learn to strike a healthy balance between innovation and tradition, as well as function better as a duo. Also, I'd try and fit a soul world scene in there where we can see T'Chaka and Killmonger again. Maybe Shuri sees them when Zenzi first enhances her powers, and Killmonger encourages her to hunt down and slaughter all of Magnum's men. That'd be cool.
So there's part 1 of what I'd like to see for Phase 4 of the MCU. I've already set a few plot threads in motion, and in part 2 I'll start bringing it together. I also have a really long and thorough series of posts about the Fox X-Men franchise coming, in a similar fashion to this.... if I ever finish it, that is.

2019.06.18 11:19 alisha40s II No Pyaar for PR: Deepika Padukone
Part One here. Part Three here. Part Two: Own Brand Disclaimer: As with Part One, everything mentioned here is from information available online already! This is not a hate post. This is just an informative series on a topic that is referenced many times on here just so the uninitiated or new members can know what the drama was all about. Since this is a post about Deepika alone, it will not include criticism towards other specific actors.
In Part One, I spoke about how a group of actresses called out and moved DP’s PR into the limelight. It was from then on that every move made by DP or her team was scrutinized in more detail than any other current actoactress at the top of their game. In Part Two, I’ll be talking about how these actions have harmed her own brand. This is an even longer post so grab some lunch & buckle in!
All the drama with the actresses etc. led to the emergence of various fan clubs that started harassing anybody who spoke out against DP. Not that I’m implying DP created these fan clubs – of course not, and other actors such as Salman Khan also have an extremely loyal fan base that attacks anybody who criticizes any move made by the star.
A few days ago, some users on Twitter noticed that DP follows a fan club (@DP1stday1stshow) known to promote negativity and harass other users, and the users commented that she follows it because allegedly her social media team runs it. Key word: allegedly. This is the same account that had posted about how Alia is copying/inspired by ‘Queen’ Deepika that I mentioned in Part One.
Let’s call it straight away – DP does not really seem to care what her PSocial Media (SM)/Stylists/Anybody that represents her is up to. Even if she does, I don’t think she’s evaluated the full impact it has on her own brand. Every actor is now using media (social or otherwise) to bring themselves up by dragging someone else down. I don’t believe that DP is unaware of what’s going on since she is extremely career savvy & knows how to play the game.
Her stylist, Shaleena Nathani, liked a negative comment saying “trying very hard”
made by DP’s fan page on an Instagram picture uploaded by Priyanka Chopra with her husband. It was immediately noticed by other users and even picked up by Pinkvilla. It escalated and turned out to be a PR disaster. (1)
Earlier this year in May, DP commented on an Instagram fan page’s post (deepika.padukone.fanpage) which clearly displayed anger and negativity towards Alia winning the Filmfare instead of Deepika by putting down Alia, criticizing the awards themselves. She commented, “To all my Fans, I am sorry I let you all down and promise to work harder than ever before…#upwards&onwards”.
Really, DP? Should you have encouraged and validated the negativity in the post by first of all commenting, and secondly not calling them out for bringing down somebody else’s performance? Needless to say, I doubt she didn’t know what she was really doing. It was picked up by the media and backfired against her own brand. (2) Hollywood
Unlike Priyanka, DP went with the movie route which meant she had visibility only until the film did. When the film is over, she has to find another project before she loses momentum which is why the promotions of XxX were full of her being eager to please and make a mark. That is not a bad attitude to have. However, the film was eventually met with a lukewarm response and went relatively unnoticed.
What did not go unnoticed though was the subtle mud-slinging at Priyanka Chopra, who is faring much better, and the sudden articles about a Vin Diesel romance. DP’s quotes about “not understanding why she’s being compared to Priyanka as she does not want the same thing as her in Hollywood” did not go down well. It felt like a backhanded insult to a lot of people as she also said it would be understandable being compared to Sonam or Anushka. Priyanka’s team also released articles about DP but that belongs in a separate post. This one is only
Some bloggers also revealed that DP’s PR directly sends out those ‘better than or beat Priyanka at so and so’ articles with the headlines included. Ever notice how all the news sites print the same articles with just a bit of paraphrasing? Everyone does this – including B & C list celebrities. This is not something unique just to Deepika but a reminder for all of us to be vary of articles that seem too obviously well timed.
In 2017, it was reported that Deepika gave a screen test for Majid Majidi’s film (which went on to become Beyond the Clouds starring Ishan Khatter) but lost out on the role because of her PR. Her team went around circulating pictures from the audition and implying that she has been signed on as the lead in the Iranian filmmaker’s movie. This did not go down well with the film team and ultimately cost her the role. The audition pictures are still online. (3)
Although the filmmaker later claimed he decided to go with a fresh face instead of a superstar for the role. (4) Interviews
Deepika is certainly not known for her interviews because she rarely ever displays spontaneity. Every question, answer, smile, laugh, even hair flick seems rehearsed. This is not the case with some of her contemporaries who tend to allow room for some sort of originality to shine through. This was highlighted more obviously when DP was outside her comfort zone i.e. during her interview with Ellen in the USA. At one point, DP just stopped talking mid-way and it seemed like she forgot what her script was and couldn’t make up something on the spot. This reflected badly especially considering the show is filmed in front of a live audience.
She seemed nervous, and also added fire to the Vin Diesel romance rumours which were obviously fed to Ellen in advance by her team. It was not a random question. However, this backfired as both parties involved are committed to other people and it felt almost disrespectful to their respective partners to be parading around a possible romance just for the sake of a movie. “There’s no smoke without fire”, “You’ll have to ask Vin about it” – some of the things she said.
For someone with all the PR training in the world, this seemed to have been a misstep. Now, keep in mind that a lot of actors use romance stories to generate hype towards movies. However, this reflected badly on DP more than the others because a) the hype about her overactive PR b) she was already known to be in a committed relationship & audiences have seen this sort of behaviour during Tamasha promotions as well which did not go down well. Fake Stories
No matter what the movie is, Deepika always seems to be the first contender for the female lead. She always seems to be the one rejecting offers and giving them to her colleagues. This has been called out repeatedly yet doesn’t seem to stop. Only adds to the damage caused to her brand.
Earlier in 2018, there was a story about DP acting in a big budget Indian superwoman role which would essentially be the ‘desi Wonder Woman’. (4)
However, this was met with jokes and a director from the industry apparently said, “who is making this desi Wonder Woman apparently at the astronomical budget of Rs 300 crores for Deepika when the original Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) is available in multiple Indian languages whenever she chooses to return? There is no mention of any production house, or filmmaker attached to this wildly improbable project with Deepika. It seems Desi Deepika Padukone Wonder Woman is being made by only somebody’s imagination.”
Boom! Back-fired. (5)
Some of the claims that her team makes about being attached to projects are blatantly untrue such as the news about her being considered for the new Bond Girl (they don’t even have a Bond yet!), starring in every film that is announced with the 3 Khans, replacing other colleagues etc. are more harmful than most other articles. It takes away from her work and the actual actors being considered for the role. Conclusion
These articles do come from somewhere & make the entire team and fandom look bad ultimately. The media is also to be blamed for not verifying news and publishing for the sake of views. However, the involvement of DP herself cannot be ignored. Her fan clubs are in a constant battle with others because of such PR exercises.
Even though most actors now employ the same PR tactics, DP has managed to create a tag for her PR that has stuck and only serves to make her PR more obvious as there is more attention on it. Her genuine support for good causes such as mental health are also undermined because people are now careful about trusting what comes out of her team. When a movie is announced, the usual reaction is ‘oh man, we’ll have to deal with the whole PR circus until the movie releases now’ which takes away from the film.
At the end of the day, it turns into a party of dirty PR maneuvers by all other actors because they feel they have to plant stories to counter stories that are already out there. Stooping down to the same level as someone you’re criticizing isn’t the solution.
In Part Three, I’ll talk about her marriage, an open letter from her fans, and my final thoughts on what she can do to control this because believe it or not – I do like her as an entertainer & enjoy watching her movies!

2019.06.16 11:08 electricvision12 Priyanka Chopra Grooves To A Bollywood Song With Her New Dancing Partner
2019.03.15 05:06 Sonia_Satoh Blind Item (Rajeev Masand)
A prominent actress who has become particular about the projects she chooses here because it means dividing her time between two lives just wrapped work on a new film she was shooting in spurts and gaps over the last year or so. It’s inspired by an emotionally wrenching true story personal to the film’s director, and while the actress says she was instantly inclined to make the movie, it’s also true she’d been sitting on the script for months before finally picking it up to read.
Sources say the director sent the script soon after it was ready, but the actress was too busy. At that point the film still didn’t have a producer. While waiting to land her leading lady the director shopped the script around to producers and quickly found a partner in a leading outfit floated by a former studio boss. The pressure to cast the film was mounting, and repeated attempts to rush the actress to read the script had failed.
As it often happens in these scenarios, the director— with the producer now—was putting pressure on the actress’ team for a response. Her manager, who couldn’t understand what all the rush was about (she wouldn’t be the first actor to have taken months to get back about a script), decided to read the script herself before increasing the pressure on her client. Subsequently, things reportedly changed. Convinced it was a script the actress would be foolish to pass up, the manager reached out to her and told her she had to give it a chance. The actress said she would— soon. Then the manager uttered the final threat: She said the filmmakers had decided to go to another actress (her arch rival, as it turns out) if she didn’t reply immediately.
The actress pored over the script on her next flight and in 24 hours confirmed the film. She asked for the director to be flown to the US for a meeting and the project got a ‘go’ overnight. Since then she’s been a dream to work with, both the director and the producer insist.
But was the threat to go to the rival a cleverly planned stunt? We might never know. Actress: Priyanka Chopra

2019.01.01 17:39 StoryofIT NYT Marriage -"She Proposed That He Be Her Caddie. They’ve Worked to Avoid the Rough."
I can't help but to think of this couple as Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas. She leveraged her wealth, status, for somewhat she dreamed about as a child - a white partner she saw in the movies and would of been a status symbol in Malaysia.I think this scenario is very similar to how some men in powerful positions, leverage their own status to obtain access they wouldn't have otherwise.
accomplished professional golfer and came from Malaysia to the US for college. She likely came from a wealthy Chinese family. Him -
likely a small town boy, likely a "bro", and "his family has a lake-front house in Frostproof Florida" (median income is 36k and avg home price is 95k).
On their first date:
“Not only did he not offer to pick up the check, but he ordered a huge slice of chocolate cake and ate it all himself while I watched,” she said. “I was upset and didn’t want to see him again.”. A short time after:
For the next few days, they hung out at the beach, interacted with his parents, and shared a kiss. She then asked him to caddie for her at the Open. He was “shocked” because that tournament is the most important in women’s golf and professionals use experienced caddies. “It would be my first time at a professional event, and the stage couldn’t be bigger,” he said. As their romance grew: "
He caddied for her on weekends, and she helped him with math. He finished a degree in interdisciplinary studies... They argued constantly about anything from club selection to reading putts, and she fired him at least 10 times"
Sounds like they worked through a lot of issues, so honestly, I think they're a good couple.

2017.01.19 02:01 DARKKKKIS Priyanka Chopra: Koffee With Karan: From phone sex to taking a shower with partner, Priyanka Chopra has been there, done that! - The Times of India on Mobile
2016.11.15 19:36 qwertyified I also know what it is like to be systematically rejected by women of my own background
For those reading this who may not be aware of the abbreviations used SA= South Asian (Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Sr Lankan) EA= East Asian SEA= South East Asian
Wow I didn’t realise it was going to be this long. Yes this is a rant, and I have never done anything like this before but it’s been building up inside me and I need to let it out and here I feel like I can truly express what I want to say to people who can on some level understand what I go through, but also as a way we can discuss ways in which we can move forward.
I do appreciate this piece is very long, and there is a TL;DR at the bottom but please try read it in its entirety, there hasn’t been anything like this anywhere else on the internet, so grab a coffee and please take your time.
Here is a bit of background, I am an Indian male born and raised in London I am currently a university student. You see, an issue we have within the Indian and wider South Asian community in the west is that we are not as vocal as the Eastern Asian communities, we don’t have people writing blogs, creating YouTube channels or just starting a discussion in general about issues which relate to us and our communities, and thus a lot of the problems which exist within our groups are often ignored. So I turned to East Asian blogs and commentators as I felt that we share so much especially in our struggles, and in one struggle in particular resonates with myself and that was general feeling amongst East and South east Asian males that women who were from the same background would completely disregard them as romantic partners and would actively seek dating interracially to avoid ever being linked with them.
Now another piece of information I must mention about me is that I am a dark skinned Indian, to use a reference point I am literally the shade of milk chocolate, and this one sole attribute of mine has been the determining factor for women in the south Asian diaspora’s refusal to view me as potential romantic partner. I was always aware of colourism within the south Asian community but when I hit puberty is when it started to have a huge impact on me, initially in dating but as time went on it started to affect a whole lot more in other aspects of life. I have never dated a girl of south Asian origin and that is not by my choice. “I would go out with you, but only if you were a bit fairer skinned’ is what one girl said to me. “I’m not into dark skinned Indian guys” is what another said. And another time I remember overhearing “ew no he is way too dark!” Ouch right? Others I had tried it on with were polite in their rejection and just gave me a vague excuse, but I always knew why it was so. I remember on one occasion a workmate of mine who is Pakistani was talking about her friends and dating etc. and as a joke I said “So how about introducing me to one of your hot friends?” and she replied “Oh no they wouldn’t be interested, you are not their type” to which my other male friend who was seated with us questioned her to what she meant by that but she just kept trying to change the subject and exclaim that I just wasn’t their ‘type.’ He then found out from asking her in private that it was in fact due to my skin tone.
As time went on I started to notice that among my SA male friends the one who were of a medium tone and lighter had no problems getting with SA girls, and ALL my dark-skinned SA male friends had great difficulties in attracting SA girls, to the point where in my twenties I know many guys who have never ever had a girlfriend. This problem wasn’t limited to my social circle, I started to look at the ‘cooler’ dark Indians who were from around London and saw the same trends, it didn’t matter how cool you were, or how good looking you were, if you were an Indian male who was dark skinned, you were massively disadvantaged. I remember often people would joke and say ‘Nah dude if you want a girl you gotta use fair and lovely (a famous skin lightning cream in India)’ and I would laugh, and girls would laugh, but deep down it hurt...bad. Of course, there were some attractive girls who gave us dark guys a chance, although it was very very very rare to see. And obviously, there are girls who do end up marrying dark Indian guys, but even then, they are almost always the fob girls who are much more traditional and less accustomed to western beauty trends and from what I have seen are only with us because of arranged marriages or because of pressure from their parents.
Ask yourself a question, whenever you see an attractive Indian girl on the street, or on any factual pieces of media like the news, or magazines or on YouTube and Instagram have a look at their significant other. Have you ever remembered them being darker skinned? I can confidently give you the answer now, NO. The irony is I have seen plenty of Indian female black male couples, and I see them so often now, even one pairing involving a girl who would make fun of my dark skin. It funny how these women will actively seek out a black male whilst completely disregarding a male who is from the same background because he is darker skinned.
I want to make one thing clear, every time I have talked about Indian woman in this post up until now has been regarding Indian women of ALL skin tones, not just fair skinned ones. So let’s talk only about the dark skinned Indian girls now for a minute, what’s the deal there? Surly they of all girls would give us a chance, right? Well as guys you know beautiful women, regardless of race or skin tone will ALWAYS be successful in terms of dating and that is because men don’t look for much when looking for a partner we want women who are beautiful and that’s pretty much the overriding criteria, so beautiful dark skinned Indian women will never have trouble attracting a mate, they have their selection of partners from whom they can freely pick and choose. Conversely when women choose a man they go for more than just beauty, they go for confidence, money, and most importantly status, and within the south Asian community dark skin has always been low status so why would a beautiful dark Indian girl bother with a ‘low status’ dark Indian when she can get a lighter skinned Indian. In fact, the overwhelming amount of attractive Indian girls with a darker hue I have seen are linked with white males, if not a white male they usually are with lighter skinned Indians. You want proof? It’s there right in your face on ‘The Mindy project’, her character is only paired with white males, Mindy Kaling is also the writer and producer so she has the say on what happens on the show and only pairs her character with white males. Having said that I will always support Mindy because she is representing dark skinned Indians and she also has faced intense discrimination from the SA community due to colourism and she and I are striving towards the same goals, so I say more power to her. I hypothesise that attractive dark skinned women generally date white men because dark skinned Indian women are horrifically victimised by colourism on a huge level in India and within Indian communities in the west even more so than Indian men that they get disillusioned with the idea of Indian male being a viable partner and often venture out and marry white men, I mean if you were a woman would you want to marry a man who belonged to a demographic who want to put you down in every aspect of your life based on something you can’t change? Again, I must stress this is not the case 100% of the time, but it happens so often it has become a noticeable trend.
This categorical refusal for females to date men of their own race is something I understand men of east and south east Asian origin also must deal with, albeit our situations are slightly different. The benefit that you have is that at least when you watch t.v shows and movies from your motherlands you will always see men who look like you be the hero and get the girl and for the duration of watching these shows, music videos and movies you are taken away to a place where you are free from the reminders that you aren’t good enough or sexy enough to keep women of your same background as is shown in western media, and we all know the profound effects of seeing these positive role models and stereotypes on screen can have on one’s outlook. For me however the situation goes from bad (watching western television) to worse (watching Bollywood and Indian television). The Indian media is absolutely rife with colourism, I won’t ever see someone who looks like in in terms of skin tone in any television show, any movie or in any magazine, the hero is always a medium to fair skinned male and it disgusts me that people who look like me and make up a huge portion of the Indian diaspora are completely ignored by the media. Well…not completely ignored, they need still need characters to fill out background roles like that of beggars and idiotic side characters and do you know who are roped in to play these roles? Yup you guessed it, it’s us ‘low status darkies.’ And the big wigs controlling the Indian media always give that bullshit excuse saying how they include dark models/actors/singers by saying they feature ‘Dusky skin’ people in movies and television now and how it is now attractive within Indian culture. I say Fuck ‘dusky!’ They are just trying to justify their discrimination, I want to see real dark skin none of that medium toned dusky bullshit. There is however one film which was released in 2013 which did feature a dark skinned Indian in the romantic lead, but even then, he was only the romantic interest for about half the film and he got turfed out by a fairer skinned Indian guy midway, having said that I really did enjoy the film and for the first time in my life EVER I could imagine myself as the hero, as the man that Indian women would actually want, and it felt bloody amazing. I cherish that movie for what it brought out in me and I am applaud the director for giving the actor a chance and breaking the mould. God knows when a movie like that will ever come out again in India, but I am not waiting on bated breath that’s for sure.
Another very interesting trend I have noticed is that when you do a generic search online of the phrases ‘Indian interracial’ ‘Indian men in interracial relationships’ or anything along those lines you don’t get a lot of results but of the results you do get there is a disproportionately high amount of dark skinned Indian males in interracial relationships when compared to Indian males and this isn’t exclusive to online searches, just a quick search on my Facebook can back this up. Now this isn’t exactly a bad thing, in fact it’s the only positive thing I see as a dark skinned Indian male as I personally am very attracted to white/black/e.asian etc. women. But, and there is a big but, as we know according to ‘sods law’ (as we call it in the UK) this brilliant and positive circumstance cannot exist without a disturbing much more sinister undertone lurking beneath. I came to the conclusion as to why dark Indian men have extremely low rates of success with attractive women of Indian origin yet have greater levels of success with attractive women when dating interracially and it’s because our only hope to date women we find attractive is to look outside, and so of course you would notice a higher frequency of dark skinned Indian males getting in to relationships with white/blacks etc. While this is great for those only wishing to date interracially, but what about guys like me to want to explore dating Indian women as well as interracially and have always envisioned having an Indian family, where are we to go? By the way I must state that Indians males, according to ‘OkCupid’ race studies and that infamous ‘Buzzfeed’ video “Do you have a racial preference” are the least responded to male group when compared to every other race of men. So, while it can be stated from my personal observations that darker skinned Indian males do noticeably well in respect to lighter skinned Indian males they still are at the bottom of the totem pole and are still not generally regarded as potential love interests to non-Indian females. It can also be argued that medium and lighter skinned Indian males get enough attention from Indian women that they have less of a desire to seek out interracial dating, and this could be the reason for their lower incidence of interracial dating, however I haven’t spoken to many people about this nor is there enough information out there for me to make a solid claim.
I also have experience with ‘Tinder’ and ‘Dus’ (the Tinder for brown folk), and on tinder I rarely got matches and whenever I did end up getting a match they were white or black females (4s ,5s, and rarely some 6s). On Dus, you can forget it, I got nothing, zero, zilch. Neither did my dark skinned Indian male friends. But seriously fuck online dating I learnt a long time ago online dating is bad for any ethnic male. I personally will never use something like Tinder again, and that’s because I know as ethnic males we got to lift, travel, learn, and gain confidence and approach women in real life as opposed to fishing around for leftovers on tinder.
Here are some Hollywood examples which back up what I have said above, fairer skinned Indian actors such as Dev Patel was in a long-term relationship with co-star Frieda Pinto, and Kunal Nayar is married to Neha Kapur both attractive Indian women. Let’s look at dark skinned actors: Naveen Andrews who has been romantically linked to various white women most recently Barbara Hershey, and Sendhil Ramamurthy is Married to Olga Sosnovska. The funny thing is before I found out who the latter two were linked with romantically, I knew that they would be with white women, and I often make predictions when I meet such guys in real life and my predictions are shockingly accurate. Seriously you yourself put this into practice, the next time you see an average to decent looking dark skinned Indian guy, you will see him with a white woman or with a fob Indian girl, that’s if he is with any girl at all which is usually the case.
I know a lot of you especially the non-dark-skinned Indian guys reading this will probably be thinking to yourselves ‘geez, just get over yourself’ ‘stop complaining’ ‘you’re over thinking it’ ‘man up’ etc. But this is something I have actively been paying attention to and making notes on for the good part of my life, like I mentioned before us Indians are terrible about critically analysing important issues that exist within our community, I can guarantee you that you won’t find anywhere on the web a discussion about what I have spoken of in this piece. This is something I have wanted to get off my chest for a long time and this subreddit was a good place to start, as they say a problem shared is a problem halved. I will be posting this piece of text on other subreddits targeted more towards south Asians after I have done a few tweaks to accommodate the change in audience.
So I would love to know how those of you in similar situations with me have learned to cope. It does hurt when I think about it too much, but I am slowly starting to come to terms with the dynamics and mindset of Indian women, I know a big change will need to come from Indian media sources to make any big significant change in mentality. But now I think it is imperative to support people like Sendhil Ramamurthy who are attractive dark skinned men who don’t go for stereotypical roles, and guys like Aziz Ansari who is consciously trying to get more Asian males into the mainstream in cool, well rounded roles especially with Master of None (which is amazing btw). Raising our profile in the interracial dating scene is also something we must do, and is something I will focus more on as opposed to try and change the minds of Indian women. E/SE Asian males are fantastic at raising their profiles on social media like YouTube and KPOP and they are definitely changing the tide. I am seeing on these buzzfeed videos etc. that non-Asian girls love E/SE Asian men and the love for you guys is growing. But sadly, us Indians are so far behind, we only have a handful of YouTubers and even then, I can only think of ‘MagicofRahat’ who is dark skinned and I can actually relate to, but even then, he never talks about his background.
As I come to the end of this rant I want to make a prediction. Like I’ve mentioned before I am very good at making predictions on social trends and have been right on many occasions. With the rise of Indian actresses in Hollywood such as Priyanka Chopra (who by the way is a fucking bitch who endorsed fairness creams, and then goes on an American talk show saying how she had a crush on 2-pac) and Deepika Padukone who is soon to star in the new xXx movie with Vin Diesel, Hollywood will soon make Indian women the next fetish. Promoting Black/ White males and Indian women pairing while slowly pushing out the Indian male much like how it has been for Chinese/Japanese/Korean men etc. and that only serves to push us dark skinned Indians even further out into the darkness.
Oh I have one more prediction I want to share with you; Raj from ‘The big bang theory’ will become gay, which will follow on nicely form Maulik Pancholy’s character in ‘Whitney’ finding out his homosexuality and the overt homosexual overtones of Ravi from ‘Jessie.’ I am absolutely not against homosexuality, I just find it very frustrating that Hollywood would rather portray us in homosexual roles without properly exploring heterosexual roles first, seriously what are they afraid of?
To the east Asian and south east Asian men who can relate to what I have spoken about here just know that you have a brethren in me and we must work together in finding solutions and helping others who are inflicted with the same troubles we suffer from. I am aware that colourism exists pan Asia and has reared its ugly head amongst SE Asia as well, but I haven’t seen much resources on its effect on SEA men and dating in that part of the world. It would be nice if we could in the future discuss that also. I hope this rant/essay/discussion has opened your eyes to the struggles that I go through every day and has exposed you to issues that you may very well never have heard of if it weren’t for this post and this subreddit.
TL;DR I am a dark skinned Indian male who has suffered from colourism my entire life, it has been a determining factor for Indian and other south Asian women in completely disregarding me as a romantic partner.

2016.04.13 08:57 noviceindwriter First published work on Kindle - FREE today (and a long story)
Hey guys. I am a complete novice writer. I am based out of Bangalore and am 30 years of age. Recently due to some changes in my life, I have tried to evaluate what is most important to me. This led to quitting my lucrative job in Mumbai, moving back to Bangalore to stay with my parents, starting up with my friends on an app based product and concentrating more on my writing. I have had no concrete ideas about what to write but motivated by reddit communities like /eroticauthors
, I decided to write something and get it out there.
I present to you my biography of Priyanka Chopra. I actually got 3 paid sales and have made 5$ from this so far which made me hopeful. I am currently running a free promo and got about 20 downloads from that.
Could you please download the book (it is free for 24 hours) and let me know what you think? Also, if any of you are looking to collaborate on something, do let me know. My main goal right now is to write stuff which makes money so that I can gain financial freedom in a few years. I am also looking at affiliate marketing (I have 1 website already up with about 25,000 words written but 0 zero revenue) and would be interested in collaborating with someone there. So if anyone is looking for a remote partner, do let me know The Book Priyanka Chopra Biography
Thanks for your time!
P.S.: this is an alt account created just today. I am not trolling or looking to make any money off you guys (not just yet at least :D)
